The Smile of the Child - Greece
The Smile of the Child (SoC) was established in 1996. Since then it has grown into a leading NGO dealing with children rights and welfare in Greece and internationally. The SoC has 11 points of access across Greece and approximately 400 permanent staff members.
The Association provides the following services to children and the public:
- Immediate intervention in cases where children are in danger or victims of violence, in cooperation with the police authorities
- Interactive Prevention Sessions in Schools on Bullying, Cyber Bullying, Domestic Violence and Abuse, Safe Internet
- Operation of the European Hotline for Missing Children 116000
- National Helpline for Children SOS 1056 (as designated by the Ministry of Health)
- Recognized National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children- Activation of Amber Alert HELLAS with the cooperation of 54 partners (public and private bodies)
- Shelter in 14 community homes throughout Greece for more than 350 children - victims of violence
- Daily Care Centres for children in need
- Counselling for children and parents
- In kind (material) support of economically marginalized children
- Volunteer drives for blood, blood platelets and bone marrow donations
- Ambulances throughout Greece for safe transportation of newborns, infants and children
- Preventive medical and dental programmes
- Creative Activities in Children's Hospitals in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patra
- South Eastern European Centre for Missing and Exploited Children
- Yousmile Interactive Web Platform (web TV programmes and Web radio broadcasts)
The SoC is a Member of the Board of ICMEC and a Member of MCE, CHI, EFSC, Eurochild, EENA, and the EU Civil Society Platform for THB. It has Special Consultative Status to UN/ECOSOC and is a member of UN/DPI.
